Classic Maine Camp

Wakefield Eco-Cabin 1 is a classic Maine camp---right on the water, lovingly restored and a perfect place for reflection and relaxation. The cabin has a great set of rocking chairs, a spacious kitchen with a great propane stove and a classic pump at the sink (water is not safe for drinking!), plenty of light and fresh air through the new windows, adequate solar powered lighting for after dark reading, and comfortable beds upstairs. The composting toilet is an interesting contraption and certainly does its job well with a minimum of smell, fuss and effort. But the real treat is being in the woods and on the water! Traipsing through the woods and following the old stone walls was fun---until the mosquitoes got the upper hand and I had to retreat to the cabin. The birds are plentiful and include loons, osprey, eagles, wood ducks---just to name the ones I saw on one of my lazy canoe trips. I had a lot of fun---and a little bit of success---fly fishing in the stream. All in all, my time at Wakefield was quiet, relaxing and restorative! I plan on coming back again---and again, and....

The porch is a dream...overhanging the water, secluded and private. Did not stay long enough to test out all the amenities, but was so grateful to have a peaceful, restorative place to be. Will definitely return. (NOTE: Normal for the season, but mosquitoes were ferocious on walk in. Once in the cabin, we were safe and sound).

Staying at the cabin - awesome!

We had a really delightful night at the cabin Friday. We were SO GLAD for the screen porch and didn’t mind a bit that the trail isn’t built yet as the mosquitoes were hungry. Once we got out in the canoe it was delightful so we used it a lot at dusk, moonlight and morning too.

sooo cute

The cabins are sooo cute! Great job on the cute touches. -The water pump was working great. -I did not use the lights very much, but the light brightness was adequate enough to see clearly. No lamps or other lighting needed. -There were blow up mattresses in the rooms-Very comfortable!
